This is a question I normally do to my students on the semester so I have to answer it myself too.
Informatics
This one is hard, I originally wanted to study medicine, I even started the enrollment but at the last minute I changed my mind because I didn’t really wanted to deal with persons, I wanted to do experiments and stuff(Had no idea that there was a career just for that and I will hook up with a girl studying that).
That’s one part of the decision, the other big part was changing the city. So, at the city where I grew up there wasn’t any university that offered a CS degree, I had to move to a city that is a 1 hour car trip. The things on Venezuela were already kind of mess up, I didn’t like how the older fellas from my high school that stayed on the city were doing( I felt they were kind of losers now) and also I was kind getting drunk most of the week. Finally I had the opportunity to move to Guadalajara since my grandma lived there and I thought well I have to move out of the city, why at least not give a shot?
Computer Engineering
After I finished my 1st career I talked with my dad about my maintenance, he told me he was OK with keep supporting me financially for a masters degree(2 years), couple of months later I decided to start computer engineering on the same university because:
1)My friends from this career thought they were better than me because their degree has a “engineer” and mine not.I couldn’t allow anybody to feel better than me =).
2)I feel there was still things to learn.
3)I only had to do 1.5 years so I told my dad if he was willing to change the 2 years for this, he was OK.The other part of the plan was starting a master degree with scholarship, so I will not be working for another 3.5 years.
MBA
I wanted to do a master on software engineering on CMU but one of the requisites for that was having 2 years of experience on SW development, which at the moment I didn’t have.So I decided to look for a job on the area and thought to myself, well I be here for at least another 2 years, thats at master degree, why not get the best of it?
